Miljölagstiftning
Our changing climate has pushed governments and regulatory bodies to rethink how goods are packaged and how packaging waste is handled. Several U.S. states — including Oregon, Colorado, and California — have already enacted their own producer-responsibility laws, even in the absence of any federal mandates. But perhaps the most far-reaching example is the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which took effect in August 2026. The PPWR requires sellers — regardless of size — to minimize packaging weight and material, meet new recyclability standards, and register with a producer-responsibility scheme in every market where they sell. For a small shop like ours, complying with this last part is where the majority of our focus has been.
Efterlevnad hittills
More than 30% of our orders now ship to the European Union — and that share continues to grow. To comply with the PPWR, we’ve secured Authorized Representative coverage in our largest EU markets, and we’re actively working to finalize arrangements in France, Finland, and the Netherlands, among others. This process isn’t inexpensive, particularly for a shop of our size. But we’d rather absorb this cost than abandon a market that is becoming an increasing part of our business — and one that has been the source of much of our creative inspiration and curiosity.
Vi packar fortfarande upp
We’re still putting together the story of our packaging — how our practices have evolved, where there’s still work to do, and why “greener” isn’t always as simple as it sounds.
